Activity 9 Upper and Lower Case Letter Recognition

Make some upper and lower case cards as shown on the right. Use the same letters that you have been working with in the previous activities.  The child says the name/sound of the letter and pegs the lower case.

The pegs are ideal for helping to develop the fine motor skills. If your child is unable to use the pegs, use coins, beads, shells or other small items to mark the small letter.

The activity can also be done on a piece of paper where the child uses a pencil to match the upper case to the lower case.

If you have individual upper and lower case letters they can be arranged on a surface, then the child uses pieces of string, pipe cleaner or stretched playdough to match the letters.
