November is Mathematics Month!

The Ministry of Education, Human Resource Development and Labour in collaboration with the Curriculum and Materials Development Unit (CAMDU) recognize Mathematics Month every November. This year’s theme is “Exploring Mathematics Through Literacy”

mathematics

The theme itself suggests that there are many opportunities to provide Mathematics instruction by integrating with other core subject areas. Literacy is central and fundamental to understanding. Many students struggle to solve problems or to rationalize a problem when they are not able to put the problem into context. A lot of the abstraction of Mathematics procedures can be clarified by providing the setting where Mathematics can be applied.

The Internet provides an abundance of resources as well the means for allowing students to explore concepts in Mathematics. Teachers and schools across St. Lucia are using some of these resources together with their own to make this Mathematics Month one to remember.

Below are a few links that can assist with planning activities under the theme. Please feel free to share these and any other useful resources with teachers!
